Luke and the Lectionary: Getting Ready for Year C
Join Dr. Hoke for a four-week seminar on the Gospel of Luke, designed for preachers and congregational leaders preparing for Lectionary Year C, which starts on December 1 and heavily features Luke for its gospel selections. Gain new insights on interpretive approaches to Luke that will help you focus and bring new meanings to passages from this gospel. Participants will leave feeling more knowledgeable about Luke and equipped to study it efficiently and effectively in the year ahead.
No homework, but participants will receive a resource and reading list for the course, which they can use throughout the lectionary year.
The seminar will meet from 12:00 - 1:00 PM (Central Time) on Wednesdays, starting October 30, 2024. (If there's interest, it may be offered again in January 2025.)
Session Topic Schedule:
Week 1 (10/30): Introduction to Luke + Luke and Judaism/Anti-Judaism
Week 2 (11/6): Gospel of the Poor? Luke, Class, and Empire
Week 3 (11/13): The Gospel of Women? Luke, Sex and Gender
Week 4 (11/20): Putting All Together: Interpreting and Preaching Luke
Bonus (optional) Session: Preparing for Advent + Christmas : Luke’s Infancy Narrative, MONDAY, November 18, 7:00pm (Central Time)
This optional session will also be offered as an single-session class, but it is included (free!) for everyone in the Luke seminar!
